Final Opening 'The Deluded'

Evaluation question 6

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full production?

I feel that from the preliminary task to the full product our filming and editing skills have improved a lot.

In the pre-lim task the camera movements and camera shots were quite basic and our editing skills were limited however in our final product our camera shots and movements were much more varied and our editing skills here also massively improved.

We have learnt how much more effective camera shots, angles and movements are to the creation of a specific mood or tone in a scene and also how important they are in putting across a specific attitude towards a certain character. For example not many people will particularly like our PSYCHO character as they are a villain and they are always shown in low key lighting. Also we have learnt that camera shots of a characters feet can create a sense of enigma.

synopsis

“I’m sorry, I can’t be with you” were the fatal words which Sophie said before she went missing on the 12th of January 2016. Who was the last one to see her? No one knows where she is, not even her ex-boyfriend Michael, who she was seeing in secret, or her new boyfriend. Police question all her friends, family and the people which are her past and present. But they don’t look in the most obvious place, the place where she first met him? So the attention is drawn towards Michael or David. Who is it? Police are questioning them both, the only piece of evidence which the police have is a statement from a passer-by that she was seen with a male in a hoodie. In this action packed psychological thriller, people turn on the most truthful person, the liar believed for his sob story. But the real question is, where is Sophie?

Plot

Sophie a 17 year old girl, who is drawn between two males, who she loves, both of them have no clue about the other. However Sophie goes to meet up with one of them and then she tells them about the other and breaks up with them. The male then proceeds to kidnap Sophie, hiding her in an abandoned basement of holiday home, from his childhood, that they went to together.

Her mom Catherine, then reported her missing; and this is when the police came to investigate her whereabouts. The passer-by then gives the statement about seeing Sophie with a male in a hoodie dragging her off.

Suspicious, Ex-boyfriend Michael goes looking for her. He then talks to her boyfriend David, who converses about his old holiday home. Michael then goes looking for Sophie at the holiday home and finds her. He then proceeds to try and save her, but David turns up and finds him. He then hits Michael with a baseball bat, killing him in the process. He then hides him in a room in the basement.

Sophie, after Davis left, tried to escape. But David left his coat and went back to the Basement, catching Sophie trying to escape. So he pushes her and she hits her head off a concrete step, so she dies as well as Michael. David frantically tries to cover up his two murders. So he decides to Burns their bodies and buries their ashes in concrete. He then hides the baseball bat under a manhole cover on the side of a road. No-one could find them.
5 years later, pipes under the manhole cover need maintenance, so the baseball bat is discovered. {Left on a cliff hanger}

short film with analysis

Evaluation of short film

From this task, we have learnt how to use a camera and how important it is to match camera movement/shots. In our opinion we feel that our video is very fluent, however there is certain aspects, which could be improved i.e. the background sound, could be more quite so you can hear the actors more clearly.
